We've posted two new webcasts for your viewing pleasure. The first provides a basic understanding of PSDM for non-geophysicists. The second is an overview of Wave Imaging and its technology.

 

Wave Imaging Sells to GeoCenter, LP

Wave Imaging is now a division of GeoCenter LP, headquartered in Houston, TX. This strategic alliance allows us to partner with a leading seismic data processing services company, while our Wave team will continue to specialize in onshore depth migration. In addition, Wave also provides consulting services to Summit Geophysical, located in Denver, CO. For our customers, this will be a seamless process as we will continue to maintain offices in Denver and Houston. Stay tuned for more details, or feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions. We are open and it’s business as usual!

New partnerships: gravity and seismic interpretation

Wave Imaging has created partnerships with two boutique firms which expand our reach. Interactive Earth Sciences Corp (IESC), managed by Mark Kramer and Peter Northrop, is a highly-regarded Denver firm specializing in seismic interpretation. We expect IESC to assist Wave with, among other things, well-seismic mistie analysis in situations where our clients lack the expertise or time. Terrasys Geophysics is a provider of potential fields software and interpretation. We expect Terrasys to provide gravity interpretation services to better constrain velocity models in difficult situations (e.g. salt, overthrust). WIT 5DI

Wave Imaging Technology announces the release of its new WIT 5DI technology. WIT 5DI is our implementation of 5D Interpolation. WIT 5DI uses a weighted least-squares polynomial interpolation to estimate missing traces. We normally only interpolate receivers (keeping the number of shot records constant), but can estimate new shot records by appealing to reciprocity. Click here for a WIT 5DI Case study.

Dallas Geophysical Society Luncheon

Second US Patent awarded

WIT's second US Patent (8,335,651 B2), Estimation of Propagation Angles of Seismic Waves in Geology with Application to Determination of Propagation Velocity and Angle-Domain Imaging, was issued by the USPTO on December 18, 2012.

New Employees!

WIT is pleased to announce the addition of two new team members:

• Kevin Rybicki has joined as a Junior Depth Processor in WIT’s Houston headquarters. A former college swimmer, Kevin comes to geophysics from medical imaging.

• Ed Andrews, recently retired Chief Geophysicist of EXCO Resources in Pittsburgh, has joined WIT as a Senior Exploration Consultant. Ed will develop new business and maintain client relationships in the northeastern US.

Interpreter's Guide to Depth Imaging, by Scott MacKay, (MacKay Consulting, Denver, CO), republished by permission. Scott (contact) is recognized as one of the industry's top advocates of PSDM technology. As an independent consultant, he advises his clients (E&P companies) how to get the best PSDM result from vendors. We at WIT feel that Scott's advice is spot-on and recommend reading the paper listed above before starting a PSDM project.

Lecture: Morgan Brown, CEO of Wave Imaging Technology Inc. will be presenting ‘Prestack Depth Migration for "Easy" Onshore Plays?’

Abstract:
Traditionally, prestack depth migration (PSDM) was considered an exotic technology, applicable only for imaging "complex" geology. Offshore subsalt imaging drives the use of the most advanced PSDM technologies, like Reverse-Time depth Migration (RTM), however, given the recent resurgence of onshore exploration, we ask: can PSDM make an impact on "easy" onshore plays? We present an unconventional oil shale case study which convincingly illustrates three key reasons for (re)considering PSDM:

1. Remove false time structures caused by lateral variations in velocity.
2. Improve focusing of dipping beds and faults.
3. Improve the accuracy of seismic attributes.
